Olympus, University of Quebec Partner for Microscopy

CENTER VALLEY, Pa., and MONTREAL, Feb. 25, 2014 — Olympus and the University of Quebec’s École de technologie supérieure (ETS) have joined forces as research partners, putting Olympus’ microscope and laser systems in the hands of university researchers.

The optics and reprography manufacturer is providing its microscopy and laser surface-analysis systems to the ETS Center of Excellence facility free of charge. Researchers, engineers and technicians whose work focuses on the mechanical, electrical, civil, production and industrial engineering fields, as well as materials sciences, will benefit from the partnership.

Olympus’ technical specialists will also be available on site to assist with application and operational support.

“The partnership elevates ETS’ program offerings by providing cutting-edge equipment and support that produces top-level competencies in engineering, technology and education,” said Mohammad Jahazi, a professor of mechanical engineering at ETS.

The systems Olympus will provide include:
  • DSX100 optodigital imaging system — a free-angle wide-zoom microscope that combines optical performance with the operational convenience of a smartphone or tablet
  • BX microscopes — feature multispot autofocus, high-resolution apochromat, long-distance fluorite, strain-free lenses for use with polarized light and optics for near-IR or deep-UV transmission
  • STM6 2-D and 3-D measuring and toolmakers microscopes — provide measurements with submicron resolution
  • LEXT OLS4100 laser confocal microscope system — delivers nanometer-level imaging, 3-D measurement and surface-roughness analysis
