KAHL AM MAIN, Germany, June 26, 2014 — A Hanergy Solar Group subsidiary has agreed to pay Singulus Technologies more than € 15 million for thin-film deposition equipment to be used at Hanergy’s new high-efficiency solar cell factory in Caofeidian, China.

Singulus’ Tenuis II machine performs buffer layer deposition, which the company said presents a development in efficient wet-chemical coating of copper-indium-gallium-selenium (CIGS) solar modules. It has a modular cluster build basis, which the company said facilitates the simultaneous one-side coating of two substrates.

Hanergy is in the process of building a 600 MW CIGS production facility. The company says it has achieved 20.5 percent solar conversion efficiency using CIGS.

Glossary
indium
Metal used in components of the crystalline semiconductor alloys indium gallium arsenide (InGaAs), indium gallium arsenide phosphide (InGaAsP), and the binary semiconductor indium phosphide (InP). The first two are lattice-matched to InP as the light-emitting medium for lasers or light-emitting diodes in the 1.06- to 1.7-µm range, and the last are used as a substrate and cladding layer.
