Resolve Supplies Lenses for NASA Testing

CHESHAM, England, June 27, 2014 — Resolve Optics has supplied non-browning zoom lenses to NASA for the study of future low-maintenance space-based optics.

Space presents a challenging environment where camera lens servicing or replacement is highly undesirable, the company said. The company’s radiation-tolerant lenses are made from cerium oxide-doped glass and synthetic silica, allowing them to withstand radiation doses of up to 100 million rads and temperatures up to 55 °C without discoloration or degradation of performance.

The non-browning lenses provide high image resolution and minimum geometric distortion from 400 to 750 nm.

The lenses will be used at the Satellite Servicing Capabilities Office at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Md. The center investigates human and robotic satellite servicing, and develops technologies for orbital spacecraft inspection, repair, refueling, component replacement and assembly.
