Fiber Optic Sensor Monitors Early Stage Embryos

A fiber optic sensor holds promise for noninvasive monitoring of early stage embryos during the in vitro fertilization (IVF) process. The sensor concurrently measures hydrogen peroxide and pH in solution, and consists of a single optical fiber, the tip of which was functionalized with a reactive fluorescent coating. Researchers from the Australian Research Council's Centre for Nanoscale BioPhotonics (CNBP) and the University of Adelaide believe the sensor has the potential to be used across a range of biological applications, but that it is particularly well suited to the IVF...Read full article
