Artificial Dielectrics Leveraged to Control THz Waves

Future terahertz-wave devices for communications and imaging could benefit from a lens based on artificial dielectrics. Terahertz radiation (about 100 to 10,000 GHz) is a relatively unexplored slice of the electromagnetic spectrum but it holds the promise of countless new imaging applications, as well as wireless communication networks with extremely high bandwidth. However, few off-the-shelf components are available for manipulating terahertz waves. Artificial dielectrics are man-made media that mimic properties of naturally occurring dielectric media, or even manifest properties...Read full article

    Glossary
    terahertz
Terahertz (THz) refers to a unit of frequency in the electromagnetic spectrum, denoting waves with frequencies between 0.1 and 10 terahertz. One terahertz is equivalent to one trillion hertz, or cycles per second. The terahertz frequency range falls between the microwave and infrared regions of the electromagnetic spectrum. Key points about terahertz include: Frequency range: The terahertz range spans from approximately 0.1 terahertz (100 gigahertz) to 10 terahertz. This corresponds to...
