The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Standards Association, a globally recognized standard-setting body, has announced the IEEE 2020 project, a new image quality standard for intelligent cars and other vehicles. A group of engineers and researchers working in vehicle perception aims to provide a uniform approach to aid in the development of automotive imaging technologies. The standard is set to address the fundamental attributes that contribute to image and quality for automotive advanced driver assistance systems applications, as well as identifying existing metrics and other useful information. “The project authorization request has been submitted to the IEEE Standards Association and will be reviewed for approval at their next meeting in May,” said Rob Stead, interim chair of the working group. “The work group will be made open to all interested parties for input, and will remain noncommercial and regulated by the IEEE code of practice.” The IEEE Standards Association develops consensus standards through an open process that engages the industry and brings together a broad stakeholder community. The IEEE is a leading authority on a wide variety of areas ranging from aerospace systems, computers and telecommunications to biomedical engineering, electric power and consumer electronics.
