Newport Corp. of Irvine, Calif., has announced that it will acquire CE Johansson AB of Eskilstuna, Sweden, a manufacturer of touch-probe metrology systems for industrial applications. The terms of the agreement, which will make Johansson a part of Newport's Video Metrology Div., were not disclosed.

Robert G. Deuster, CEO and chairman at Newport, said the move would enable the company to offer multisensor metrology systems for automation applications. Mark V. Edwards, vice president and general manager of the company's Video Metrology Div., added that Johansson's contact probe systems, such as the Ruby desktop coordinate measurement machine, complement the noncontact systems offered by Newport's RAM Optical business.
