Boeing Co.'s Military Aircraft and Missile Systems Group in St. Louis has completed flight tests of a third-generation targeting and navigation system on one of its F-15E Eagle fighter/bombers. The tests confirmed that the Litening II pod, which is produced by Northrop Grumman Corp.'s Electronic Sensors and Systems Sector in Baltimore, is compatible with the aircraft with minimal alterations. The Litening II includes forward-looking IR and CCD television cameras and laser spot-tracker/rangefinder sensors. Northrop Grumman produces the system for integration with US, Israeli, Spanish and Italian fighters. Boeing has supplied 226 F-15Es to the US Air Force, and the Republic of Korea is evaluating a variant of the aircraft.
