Accredited academic institutions and private industry researchers who are breaking ground with Ocean Thin Films’ SpectroCam multispectral imaging platform are encouraged to submit proposals to the company’s grant program. Called MSInnovation, the program gives participants the opportunity to add a free or subsidized SpectroCam to their labs. The platform has biomedical and other applications. The company will select up to 10 recipients based on the submission’s feasibility, innovative merit, commercial potential, creative application of multispectral imaging and alignment with the company’s goals. Applications will be accepted until Jan. 31, 2013. For more information, visit www.spectrocam.com. The company has factories in Florida and Colorado.

multispectral imaging
Multispectral imaging is a technique that involves capturing and analyzing images at multiple discrete spectral bands within the electromagnetic spectrum. Unlike hyperspectral imaging, which acquires data across a continuous range of wavelengths, multispectral imaging is characterized by capturing information at several specific, predefined bands. This allows for the extraction of spectral signatures and information from different parts of the spectrum. Key aspects of multispectral imaging...
optical coatings
Optical coatings are thin layers of materials applied to optical components, such as lenses, mirrors, filters, and prisms, to modify their reflective and transmissive properties. These coatings are designed to enhance the performance of optical systems by controlling the way light interacts with the surfaces of the components. The primary purposes of optical coatings include: Antireflection coating: This type of coating is designed to reduce reflections from the surfaces of optical...
photonics
The technology of generating and harnessing light and other forms of radiant energy whose quantum unit is the photon. The science includes light emission, transmission, deflection, amplification and detection by optical components and instruments, lasers and other light sources, fiber optics, electro-optical instrumentation, related hardware and electronics, and sophisticated systems. The range of applications of photonics extends from energy generation to detection to communications and...
