Chip processing equipment maker Veeco Instruments Inc. of Plainview, N.Y., and nanoelectronics research center imec of Louvain, Belgium, are collaborating to lower the cost of producing gallium-nitride-on-silicon (GaN-on-Si)-based power devices and LEDs. Veeco’s metallorganic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) equipment is being used at imec to meet the center’s development milestones for GaN-on-Si for power and LED applications.

TeraXion Inc. of Quebec City and the National Research Council of Canada (NRC) of Ottawa, Ontario, are partnering to develop and fabricate TeraXion’s modular products. The company’s next-generation indium phosphide high-speed modulators are used in coherent transmission systems at 100 Gb/s and beyond. Work under the agreement will take place at NRC’s Canadian Photonics Fabrication Centre in Ottawa.
