To strengthen its diode laser portfolio, Toptica Photonics AG has acquired the majority ownership of Berlin-based eagleyard Photonics GmbH.

Eagleyard, a laser diode manufacturer with an annual turnover of about €4 million (about $5 million), will continue to operate as an independent company and maintain its sales and distribution organization and brand, said Toptica President Wilhelm Kaenders. In addition, the acquisition will further cultivate and enhance eagleyard’s technology transfer with Ferdinand Braun-Institute (FBH).

“The … collaboration of these two companies as technology drivers in the photonics arena is strengthening Berlin as a center hub for optical technologies,” said professor Günther Tränkle, head of FBH.

The acquisition comes after several years of collaboration, most notably in the field of high-power tapered diodes.

Toptica Photonics manufactures diode and fibers lasers and laser systems for scientific and industrial applications.
