Eyeing Superresolution Microscopy, Bruker Acquires Vutara

Bruker Corp. has acquired Vutara Inc. of Salt Lake City for an undisclosed amount.

The acquisition will integrate Vutara’s high-speed, 3-D superresolution imaging systems with Bruker’s line of multiphoton and multipoint scanning optical microscopy technologies designed for the scientific research community.

Superresolution microscopes can break the optical diffraction limit by an order of magnitude, opening research opportunities in single-molecule, cellular and neurobiological processes, Bruker said.

1. A single unit in a device for changing radiant energy to electrical energy or for controlling current flow in a circuit. 2. A single unit in a device whose resistance varies with radiant energy. 3. A single unit of a battery, primary or secondary, for converting chemical energy into electrical energy. 4. A simple unit of storage in a computer. 5. A limited region of space. 6. Part of a lens barrel holding one or more lenses.
superresolution
Superresolution refers to the enhancement or improvement of the spatial resolution beyond the conventional limits imposed by the diffraction of light. In the context of imaging, it is a set of techniques and algorithms that aim to achieve higher resolution images than what is traditionally possible using standard imaging systems. In conventional optical microscopy, the resolution is limited by the diffraction of light, a phenomenon described by Ernst Abbe's diffraction limit. This limit sets a...
