Automatic data capture and industrial automation company Datalogic SpA acquired machine vision technologies provider PPT Vision Inc. for $5.2 million, financed with internal capital resources, effective in early December.

Under the agreement, PPT will operate as a separate company within Datalogic Automation, the industrial automation division of Datalogic Group. Guglielmo Piazzi will become chairman of PPT and will report to Gian Paolo Fedrigo, CEO of Datalogic Automation.

PPT will maintain its Minneapolis office, with a network of strategic sales partners, distributors and integrators, according to Bob Heller, who will continue as its president and CEO. He will report to Piazzi.

The acquisition is expected to provide both organizations with stronger global sales channels, additional product development resources and industry leadership positions in automation and machine vision.
