POG Marks 20 Years

More than 100 guests attended festivities to mark POG Präzisionsoptik Gera’s 20 years of business in the field of precision optics.

Clients, partners and long-term supporters from Europe, the US, Israel and South Africa, as well as employees of the company’s North American branch office, were among the celebrators.

Founded in 1991 as a management buyout from the former Zeiss company in Gera, POG began its business activities in 1992 under the guidance of Manfred Schubach, Aleksander Wlodarski and Ray George.

Over the past 10 years, POG has invested more than €10 million (about $12.4 million) in new technologies and a cleanroom for the production of optical microstructures and the assembly and testing of optical systems.

With a turnover of €10 million in 2011, an export rate of more than 60 percent and an increasing staff of 120 employees, POG has become a global provider of high-precision optics for machine vision, laser technology and medical applications as well as military and sports optics, it said.

Glossary
machine vision
Machine vision, also known as computer vision or computer sight, refers to the technology that enables machines, typically computers, to interpret and understand visual information from the world, much like the human visual system. It involves the development and application of algorithms and systems that allow machines to acquire, process, analyze, and make decisions based on visual data. Key aspects of machine vision include: Image acquisition: Machine vision systems use various...
photonics
The technology of generating and harnessing light and other forms of radiant energy whose quantum unit is the photon. The science includes light emission, transmission, deflection, amplification and detection by optical components and instruments, lasers and other light sources, fiber optics, electro-optical instrumentation, related hardware and electronics, and sophisticated systems. The range of applications of photonics extends from energy generation to detection to communications and...
