HANAU, Germany, July 18, 2023 — Heraeus Comvance, a manufacturer of quartz glass for fiber optics in telecom and specialty applications, has acquired part of the OFS Fitel Denmark ApS plant in Brøndby, Denmark, near Copenhagen. The companies will continue to operate as independents.

Per the transaction, Heraeus Comvance said it will manufacture standard optical telecom fibers based on a European value chain and will provide the fibers to the EMEA market. OFS, headquartered outside Atlanta, said it will continue to provide its customers outside of EMEA, as well as its cable factories, with a full range of fiber types from draw towers located in the U.S.

Furukawa Electric Co., OFS’ parent company based in Tokyo, will continue to serve the global market with its full portfolio of telecom fibers.

Glossary
optical fiber
Optical fiber is a thin, flexible, transparent strand or filament made of glass or plastic used for transmitting light signals over long distances with minimal loss of signal quality. It serves as a medium for conveying information in the form of light pulses, typically in the realm of telecommunications, networking, and data transmission. The core of an optical fiber is the central region through which light travels. It is surrounded by a cladding layer that has a lower refractive index than...
