Partnership Brings AI-Aided Aerial Imaging to Mining Sector

MUNICH, June 20, 2023 — Strayos, a provider of AI-powered software solutions for the mining industry, and Quantum-Systems GmbH, a dual-use aerial intelligence company and a provider of multisensor data collection drones for government agency and commercial customers, have partnered to develop solutions for the mining operations sector.

According to the companies, Strayos’ AI and data analytics capabilities will combine with Quantum-Systems’ unmanned aerial vehicle technology to enable mining companies to extract more value from data to further optimize their operations, as well as to enhance safety measures and increase productivity and return on investment. The partnership will also enable mining companies to minimize environmental impact, Strayos and Quantum-Systems said.

Strayos’ software solutions are designed specifically for the mining industry. The software performs data analysis from sources including drones, lidar scans, and existing mining equipment.

Quantum-Systems’ drones are equipped with six fully integrated cameras — including RGB, oblique, multispectral, and a lidar scanner — enabling precise data collection and aerial mapping.

Glossary
lidar
Lidar, short for light detection and ranging, is a remote sensing technology that uses laser light to measure distances and generate precise, three-dimensional information about the shape and characteristics of objects and surfaces. Lidar systems typically consist of a laser scanner, a GPS receiver, and an inertial measurement unit (IMU), all integrated into a single system. Here is how lidar works: Laser emission: A laser emits laser pulses, often in the form of rapid and repetitive laser...
scanning
The successive analysis or synthesizing of the light values or other similar characteristics of the components of a picture area, following a given method.
aerial mapping
The use of photographs taken from the air to construct graphic maps and charts of ground surfaces.
