OFC/NFOEC 2012

The Optical Fiber Communication Conference and Exposition and the National Fiber Optic Engineers Conference (OFC/NFOEC) is the premier international event for both the science and business of optical communications and networking. It features more than 90 short courses, over 500 exhibitors and 750 technical papers covering technologies and applications in green networks, spatial multiplexing, coherent detection for high spectral efficiency, data center and wireline-wireless networking, and 100G and beyond.

OFC/NFOEC’s exhibition is the place to be to get the latest products and information from more than 500 exhibitors on FTTx, networks, test and measurement, optical grids, optical packets, ROADMs, coherent systems and WDM-PON.

The event also include a plenary session, 14 one-hour tutorial speakers reviewing progress on important research in the field, workshops and panels, a rump session titled, “Is Space Division Multiplexing an Industry-Transforming Technology or a Research Curiosity?,” moderated by Pat Iannone of AT&T Labs-Research, Optical Systems Research Dept., and two special symposia: Enabling Technologies for Fiber Capacities Beyond 100 Terabits/second, and Plasmonics for Optical Interconnects.

Pittcon is the world's largest annual conference and exposition for laboratory science. It features the latest technology and instrumentation from 950 exhibitors and more than 2,000 technical presentations the cover topics such as life sciences, drug discovery, nanotechnology, biomedical, environmental, homeland security, food science, forensics, agriculture and biomass.

The event will also include a plenary speaker, short courses, poster and networking sessions, and the Waters Symposium, which will recognize pioneers in the development and application of portable handheld X-ray fluorescence spectrometers. New to the program this year is a Capstone Lecture, titled “Redesigning DNA: Fixing God’s Mistakes,” which will be presented by Steven A. Benner, a Distinguished Fellow at the Foundation for Applied Molecular Evolution.

In addition to the technical conference, there will be more than 950 companies at the exhibition, showcasing the latest products and technology in analytical equipment, peripheral products, lab supplies and laboratory system solutions.

Optical Thin Film Design and Production Course 2012
The course is intended to be valuable to new coating engineers, scientists, technical managers, and technicians as well as seasoned thin film scientists who are involved in design, development, and production of optical thin films.  Basic principles are laid out from the beginning for those new to the field, but the evolution of the topics then moves into material and techniques useful to even the more experienced practitioners.  No extensive background in mathematics or physics is required; extensive graphical illustrations are used.
