Magneto-Optic Crystals (CdMnTe, CdMnHgTe, TdGdG, etc.)
A magneto-optic crystal is a photonic crystal that is comprised of magneto-optical material such that the optical response of the device depends on the magnetization of the magneto-optical material. The magneto-optical effect can be enhanced by means of optical resonances.
  • TERMS
  • magneto-optical photonic crystal A photonic crystal that comprises magneto-optical material such that the optical response of the device depends on the magnetization of the magneto-optical material. The magneto-optical effect can be enhanced by means of optical resonances.
  • magneto-optics The study of the effects of a magnetic field on specific properties of light, such as polarization.
  • crystal A solid with a structure that exhibits a basically symmetrical and geometrical arrangement. A crystal may already possess this structure, or it may acquire it through mechanical means. More than 50 chemical substances are important to the optical...
  • crystal optics The study of the transmission of radiant energy through crystals, especially anisotropic crystals, and their effects on polarization.
  • resonance A large amount of vibration in a system due to a small periodic stimulus that has about the same period as the natural vibration period of the system.
