PerkinElmer Inc. has introduced an LED fiber optic illuminator that exceeds the brightness levels of 150-W halogen technology while using fifty percent less power.PerkinElmer_FiberOpticIllum.jpg

This latest addition to the company’s products for use in medical and industrial lighting offers an energy-efficient, maintenance-free alternative to halogen-based and metal-halide fiber optic illuminators. It uses a proprietary optical light engine designed to couple high-intensity LED white light into 3- to10-mm fiber optic bundles for applications including endoscopy, microscopy and machine vision. In contrast to other light sources, the color temperature of the LED light does not change over time when the light is dimmed or increased.

The LED source comprises high-power white LEDs, patent-pending optics to precisely couple light into the fiber optic bundles, a heat sink and fan, linear light intensity control and an AC power supply.
