OmniCure LED Spot Curing System

EXFO Electro-Optical Engineering Inc.’s Life Sciences & Industrial Div. has launched the OmniCure LX400 UV LED spot curing system. It can control up to four UV LED heads simultaneously with a single connection, or independently, via four foot pedals or 22 programmable logic control inputs. Each head can be of a different wavelength and can be set for different exposure times and irradiance levels in 1% increments. For greater production efficiency, four of the same or four unique applications can be cured simultaneously.

UV LED heads are available in 365-, 385- and 400-nm wavelengths for greater compatibility with current adhesives. The system offers interchangeable or replaceable focusing lens options and versatile UV LED head choices and is compatible with all existing OmniCure LX Series accessories, including UV LED heads, lenses, cables and foot pedals. It is suitable for UV spot curing assembly processes used in manufacturing of optical communications components, lenses, DVDs and electronic equipment.

LEDs indicate timer control, level, trigger mode and emission. Mode and up/down buttons control the display mode. The timer is a programmable trigger with an adjustable countdown range from 999.9 to 0.1 s, in 0.1-s intervals. Also available is user-selectable timing via trigger level. The start/stop button controls the start and stop of the LED emission, and a key switch turns the controller on and off. The LED heads include overtemperature protection and a lamp-off alarm. External input includes start/stop, intensity level select, lockout from panel interface and timer mode select.

Operating temperature is from 5 to 35 °C. The system can be used stand-alone or can be embedded into automated manufacturing lines and equipment. No extra cooling of the unit or environment is required. The company says that the RoHS- and CE-compliant system consumes 80% less power that a UV arc lamp spot curing system does.

Maximum irradiance is 9500 W/cm2 with the 385-nm UV LED head. The intelligent high-performance LED head has patented Intelli-Lamp technology, and LED temperature and lamp life are monitored, allowing for 10,000 h of operation.
