Digital Laptop Frame Grabbers

BioPhotonics
Jan 2013
Imperx has released the HD-SDI Express digital laptop frame grabbers. The HD-SDI ExpressCard/34 and HD-SDI ExpressCard/54 video capture cards have form factors of 34 and 54 mm, respectively, and a single coaxial cable connector.

When the cards are used with a camera that transmits video using SD or HD serial digital interface (SDI) format, video can be viewed and stored in real time. The cards capture single or multiple frames and can stamp a user message, date and time of capture onto the video. They handle all SD and HD formats and fit in any laptop that has an ExpressCard interface.

They capture two channels of 24-bit audio at 48 KHz. With the audio included in the card's single input, no software is needed to mix and sync audio and video.

A software development kit with an application programming interface allows customers to develop their own software to interface with the card and grab imagery and audio. It provides drivers for 32- and 64-bit Windows 7 and a variety of drivers to interface to third-party software tools with LabView, MATLAB and DirectX imaging libraries.

As many medical applications embrace digital video with higher quality and resolution, HD-SDI cameras are becoming common. Some customers use small three-chip CCD RGB cameras for endoscopy procedures that provide and record visuals at 1080p. Videos are used for medical teaching demonstrations that are rebroadcast over private networks.
