Laser Research Optics, a division of Meller Optics Inc., has introduced a full line of CO
2 laser mirrors that are made from molybdenum and are suited for the low- and high-power lasers used in harsh, dirty industrial environments.

The mirrors are made from the intrinsically hard material that does not require coatings, which can degrade. They achieve >98.1% average reflectance at 10.6 μm at a 45° area of interest, with <1.9% absorption and scatter.
Manufactured from pure vacuum arc-cast low-carbon molybdenum, they are offered in ¼- to 1-in.-diameter sizes for low-power lasers and 1- to 3-in.-diameter sizes for high-power ones, with thicknesses from 3 to 10 mm. Suitable for lasers from 20 W to kilowatts in power, their applications include laser engraving, laser marking, laser cutting, hole drilling and laser welding.
