Since 1976, Master Bond Inc. has been formulating epoxies, silicones, polyurethanes, polysulfides, UV cures and other specialty adhesive systems. Specialty Formulations Geared for the Photonics Industry

Master Bond formulates a wide range of different polymer chemistries with multiple performance properties to meet the needs of the photonics, optics and related industries. A key property in a photonics application is optical clarity. Our extensive line of epoxies for the photonics industry features optically clear formulations. One notable system is EP37-3FLF. This low viscosity system boasts high flexibility suitable for bonding, coating and casting. It has a long working life and low exotherm. The combination of high flexibility and low exotherm is ideal for lowering the stress on sensitive opto-electronic components. It has outstanding light transmission, especially from 350-2,000 nm and is cryogenically serviceable down to 4K.

Master Bond is devoted to continually improving environmental safety. Our line of UV curable systems for the photonics and related industries combine the convenience of no mixing with the benefits of fast processing times. Another desirable property for certain photonic applications is NASA low outgassing approval, which is important because it reduces fogging and cloudiness. UV10TKLO-2 passes NASA low outgassing requirements, has outstanding optical clarity and cures readily at room temperature when exposed to a UV light. To optimize the outgassing properties, UV10TKLO-2 should be preheated to approximately 50°C for 15 minutes prior to use, and then allowed to cool down to room temperature.

New technological breakthroughs in polymer chemistry have paved the road to LED light curing adhesives. Master Bond is at the forefront of developing these environmentally friendly formulations. LED401, our flagship LED product, features superior moisture resistance, has excellent optical clarity and light transmission properties, with a very slight amber tint. It is now also available in an opaque white color, as well as different viscosities.

Silicone compounds are desirable for their remarkable flexibility and high temperature resistance. MasterSil 151, with superior non-yellowing properties, has a low viscosity which makes it ideal for potting and encapsulation. It is an addition cured system and does not require exposure to moisture for complete crosslinking. It also has a low index of refraction.

The products mentioned above as well as others in our comprehensive line or epoxies are used in various applications, from display assembly for screens and monitors to fiber optics, from LEDs and LCDs to plasma, spanning many industries including telecom, medical electronics, robotics, opto-electronics, and more.
