SureLink retractable fiber optic cables have been introduced by Telescent LLC. The patent-pending cassettes package the fiber optic cable so that the excess length automatically retracts onto a take-up spool within a protective housing, reducing the possibility of damage to the microscopic glass fiber. Simplex, duplex and ribbon cable, as well as single- and multimode, large-core, bend-insensitive and plastic optical fiber can be incorporated into the structure. The cables also can be integrated with optical splitters, detectors, isolators, circulators and mode-conditioning patch cords. The housing includes a magnetic latching feature to enable multiple cassettes to be stacked or interlocked.
