Energy-Efficient LEDs
HAMBURG, Germany, March 3, 2009 -- Sharp Microelectronics Europe GmbH is expanding its LED portfolio with small and efficient white-light and RGB high-brightness chip LEDs for applications in lamps, backlighting and decoration lighting. The new offerings comprise 21 types of white-light LEDs and 11 types of monochrome and RGB LEDs.

sharp-leds.jpg Light performance is up to 90 lm/W, depending upon the model. The LEDs have a service life of 40,000 h at a substrate temperature of up to 80 °C, extending maintenance intervals.

The new LED components are designed for use in applications that require high brightness and a compact form factor. Besides backlighting for LCDs and keypads, chip LEDs are used for general illumination, surgical spotlights, as status signals for industrial applications and for indoor mood lamps.

Color temperatures of the white-light LEDs are in the range of 2200 to 11,500 K. Due to different phosphor mixtures the LEDs reach a color rendering index of up to 90 for genuine reproduction of colors and details. They are available with radiation angles of 120° and 130°. The white LEDs generate light output of up to 6.4 cd, with power consumption of 0.01 to 0.2 W.

The white-light LED chips are available in a standard package measuring 1.9 × 0.9 mm as well as in an ultrasmall package of 1.6 × 0.8 mm with a minimum height of 0.2 mm. They can replace conventional lamps in commercial applications like shop and decoration lighting and also can be used in solar-driven and traditional streetlights.
