IRVINE, Calif., Oct. 22, 2009 – Bivar has announced a 2-mm core plastic optical fiber flexible light pipe system. It offers a variety of lens cap indicators and LED adapters that provide good viewing angles, light diffusion and intensity. The LED indication upgrade is suitable for outdoor and rugged applications that require greater brightness and light transfer capacity, a sturdy design and more flexibility.
Flexible light pipes offer a cost-effective and efficient alternative for applications that include field instrumentation, heavy equipment and transportation with difficult designs where the LED light source is positioned far from the viewing surface or is obstructed by other components.
The new product is an upgrade to the company’s 1-mm core flexible light pipe series and provides significantly more light output. It offers design engineers greater product design freedom by letting them place their printed circuit board assembly far away from the required light output. They are not confined by the limitations of a rigid light pipe solution, and they can easily redesign a product and adjust the light source accordingly by simply changing the length to meet new specifications.
The system includes an optimized LED/adapter, a flexible light pipe and a lens with up to four times the light path of the company’s 1-mm version. The product has no light leakage through optical fiber and is covered with a tough RoHS-compliant polyvinyl chloride alloy outer jacket that maximizes light transmission by trapping it in the core, and that protects the core and cladding during installation and operation. The optical grade core optimizes light transmission while the lens cap diffuses the light for brilliant indication output and minimal loss in intensity.
The light pipe series offers a choice of lens shapes and style configurations with a variety of adapters.
