WAKEFIELD, Mass., Nov. 4, 2009 – Optikos Corp. has developed the VLS-100 variable luminance source, a controllable source of uniform visible illumination for testing cameras, image intensifiers and visible to near-infrared night vision devices. It is used with I-SITE software or as a stand-alone computer-controlled device.

It features a 50-mm-diameter source aperture with <2% luminance nonuniformity. The source brightness is continuously adjustable over a dynamic range of 106 that is computer controlled to within 3% of its set value. A variety of filters and test targets is available to support various performance measurements
Features include an automated variable attenuator and aperture wheel with high-resolution stepper motors; an integrated photometer that provides real-time monitoring of exit port luminance, allowing closed-loop control; a filter drawer that allows for multiple 50 × 50-mm filters to adjust color temperature and spectral output; and a digitally controlled laboratory-grade power supply that ensures constant lamp output and stable color temperature.
The dual integrating sphere design ensures good illumination uniformity. Color temperature is NIST-traceable, and custom targets are available for objective or subjective metrology testing, boresight measurements and contrast measurements.
