Princeton Instruments ProEM-HS:1024BX3Princeton Instruments Inc. has introduced a new high-speed electron-multiplying CCD (EMCCD) camera for low-light imaging and spectroscopy.

The ProEM-HS:1024BX3 is a 1024 × 1024-pixel back-illuminated EMCCD camera with patented Excelon 3 (X3) technology. It features >95 percent quantum efficiency and fringe suppression in the near-infrared, as well as single-photon sensitivity.

Enabled by 30-MHz analog-to-digital (ADC) readout capability, the camera delivers 25 full frames per second and provides >4400 fps with reduced region of interest, as well as >20,000 spectra per second utilizing special high-speed, custom readout modes. The spectra-kinetics mode is designed to deliver >300,000 spectra per second in burst mode.

The camera has an all-metal, vacuum-sealed casing and is thermoelectrically cooled to below –65 °C using air and liquid. Other advanced features include a built-in light source for precise electron multiplication gain calibration, excellent baseline stability, hardware time-stamping and a Gigabit Ethernet data interface.

Applications include single-molecule fluorescence, astronomy, Bose-Einstein condensates and plasma studies.
