ASD Inc.’s FieldSpec HandHeld2 portable spectroradiometer for scientific and field spectroscopy applications is being used for crops and soil research; for forestry, ecology and plant physiology research; and for oceanography and inland water bodies research. The compact remote sensing device uses near-infrared spectroscopy to make noncontact, fast, nondestructive laboratory-grade materials measurements. Self-contained data collection with 2000-spectrum file storage capacity and an onboard tiltable color LCD and data collection facilitate more efficient field work by eliminating the need to be continuously connected to a computer. Using proprietary technology, the device produces spectra with high signal-to-noise ratios in <1 s via a high-sensitivity detector array, a low stray light grating, a built-in shutter and second-order filtering.
