Fujikura 19S Fusion Splicer

AFL has introduced the Fujikura 19S, a fixed V-groove single-fiber fusion splicer with configurable automation features that allow users to customize splicing processes.

A programmable automatic wind protector closes and begins the splicing process after clamping the fibers in position or pressing the “set” button. Once the splice is completed, the wind protector opens, and the sheath clamp selected by the user is automatically raised, making removal of the fibers fast and easy.

A Li-ion battery provides 180 splice/heat cycles per charge. A tube heater clamps the splice protection sleeve and applies heat from both sides, resulting in a reduced shrink time of 14 s. The device produces a 5-mm cleave length for splice on connectors or small-package needs.

Ruggedized for shock, dust and moisture, its applications include fiber optic network installation and repair, FuseConnect connector installations and optoelectronic device manufacturing.
