New Focus, a Newport Corp. brand, has introduced the 8758, a multiaxis hand-control pad for its Picomotor actuators.
Designed for plug-and-play operation, it is suitable for quick tests or for straightforward handheld controller devices. It can control up to four axes without a computer and draws its electrical power directly from the Picomotor controller via the USB interface. A separate power supply is not required.
The control functions are organized into four groups: controller selection, motor selection, variable-speed jog control and forward/reverse single-step and continuous-jog control. When daisy-chained in a master/slave configuration, it can interface with up to 31 Picomotor controllers/drivers. An optional mounting kit secures the control pad to the surface of an optical table.
