Photon Design has released Fimmprop-3D, a tool for simulating 3-D propagation phenomena in waveguides. It allows users to analyze a variety of 3-D waveguide structures. The algorithm on which Fimmprop-3D is based is fully bidirectional and vectorial, and has no paraxial approximations, so it can do even wide-angle diffraction problems. It uses a scattering-matrix framework so that a component is solved for all inputs simultaneously.
