Two industrial microscopes for materials science applications are available from Nikon Instruments Inc. The Eclipse L150 has an electrostatic discharge design for use with magnetic heads, and the L150A has a universal motorized nosepiece and controls suitable for use in the semiconductor industry. Both models have small footprints and are designed with stage options that can handle up to 6 × 6-in. samples. Thick samples of up to 78 mm3 can be observed with optional spacers. The company says its patented infinity optical system provides images with better clarity, higher contrast and minimal flare.
