Flir Systems Inc. has announced the newest addition to its ThermaCAM E-series, the E2. Developed for research and development professionals, the E2 detects faults in electronic components, assemblies and mechanical systems. The company says the camera weighs 50% less than other IR cameras and can easily fit in the palm of one's hand, on a toolbelt or on a tripod. It offers precision noncontact temperature measurements and in-field jpeg image storage. A maintenance-free, uncooled microbolometer detector produces images on a 2.5-in. color LCD. Users can record temperature changes in real time, scan moving targets, freeze an image and measure temperature at 19,000 points. The camera incorporates the Laser LocatIR to spot problems. Users can download images to a computer via USB and serial port connections.
