The N-310 Nexact PiezoWalk ceramic linear motor actuator features travel ranges of 20 mm, 10-mm/s speed, push/pull force capacities to 10 N, and package measurement of 25 × 25 × 12 mm. Available from PI (Physik Instrumente) LP, it offers 0.03-nm resolution, millisecond responsiveness, operating voltage to 40 V and below, and a nonmagnetic and vacuum-compatible design. It exhibits high stiffness and is self-locking, even when powered down with nanometer position stability. It is operable in open- and closed-loop modes with the addition of an external position sensor. In contrast to traditional drive technologies, there are no mechanical components such as gears or leadscrews.
