Gentec Electro-Optics Inc.’s new Beamage-M2 real-time M2 measurement module for the Beamage-3.0 camera determines multiple-beam quality without moving parts.

Inside the device, a Fabry-Perot interferometer, made with a pair of partially reflective glasses, is positioned in front of the camera’s sensor with an angle for the light to oscillate, creating time-delayed slices. After these slices have landed on the sensor — each one a spatial cross section along the waist — the software simultaneously tracks and analyzes them for M2 calculation.

The M2 measurements are taken directly in the PC-Beamage-3.0 software at 3 fps, and values are given in both the X- and Y-axes. The system automatically detects the multiple beams, and once the system is calibrated, users can take multiple measurements without moving any parts or modifying parameters.

To conform to the ISO 11146 and 13694 standards, the software uses the second-order spatial moments to compute the M2 factor. All calculations are ISO compliant.
