Senso Optics has introduced its camera-on-chip (COC).

This new COC is the world’s first thermal application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC), its developers said. It touts a 3-second start-up time and uses less than 1 W of power. The new device also features a 640 × 480 resolution on a 30 × 30 mm card.

Using a thermal chip, COC technology creates miniature uncooled cameras, which dismisses the need for a detector and another two cards. This new COC enables everything in one solution. It also allows object detection from 2 km and a sharper, clearer image.

The COC can be implemented into any thermal imaging camera, and used for a variety of applications including a driver assistance system.
