Newport Corp. has launched the XPS-Qx universal motion controller/driver. The controller is available in two-, four-, six- and eight-axis configurations and is supplied with new firmware and a dual-core processor.

Based on the QNX RTOS operating system platform, the controller replaces the XPS-Cx model to offer better stability and a faster boot cycle. The intuitive web interface remains unchanged, along with the feature-rich firmware.

The device offers high-speed communication through 10/100 Base-T Ethernet and provides good trajectory accuracy and powerful programming. From simple motion sequences to complex synchronization, the XPS-Qx is suitable for demanding applications that require precision control.

Features include four user-definable analog inputs, four user-definable analog outputs, 30 transistor-transistor-logic inputs and outputs, data acquisition at up to 10 kHz and event triggering with 50-ns latency.

Proprietary universal driver modules allow the XPS to drive up to eight axes of any Newport actuator, linear, rotary or nanopositioning stage. Driver cards are purchased separately and are inserted into the XPS-Qx to drive a variety of motors, including stepper, DC brush, rotary or linear DC brushless, voice coil and piezoelectric.

The system is compatible with proprietary NSTRUCT instrument manager software, and with the Experimental Physics and Industrial Control System.
