A multifunctional, handheld optical power meter with an integrating-sphere-based detector has been released by Gigahertz-Optik Inc. Designed for telecommunications testing, the P-9710 optometer and LP-0101-2 detector measure the output power of bare and connected fibers, laser diodes and LEDs over the range of +20 to-60 dBm. The autoranging multimeter offers 16 functional modes of operation for continuous-wave and pulsed applications with direct readout provided in watts, decibels above 1 mW, decibels or other units. It includes an RS-232 interface and Windows-based software and offers wavelength selection and datalogging.
