Users can compute the characteristics of semiconductor devices and integrated circuits with the Femlab electromagnetics module from Comsol Inc. The software has partial differential equations for nonstandard analysis with strong couplings of nonlinear equations in 1-, 2- and 3-D. The module offers predefined equations for diffusion, transport, electrostatics, magnetostatics and electromagnetic wave propagation. These equations can be tuned and altered, or users can define their own set of equations and couplings. Simulations of capacitors or permanent magnets, and the transient and harmonic behavior of electrical machines can be analyzed using quasi-static field formulations.
