The Eclipse E1000/E1000M automated microscopes from Nikon Instruments Inc. are set up by scanning bar codes for each objective lens using the included bar-code reader. The settings are memorized, and adjustments such as aperture selection, brightness and focus are performed automatically once the objective has been selected. Smart card technology recalls previously stored personal adjustments and settings without the use of an external computer. The company says the microscopes allow one-touch operation and optimal settings for viewing to achieve the best results for each specimen.
