The miniature optical power monitor from Lightwaves2020 Inc. integrates a microtap and a PIN photodiode in a coaxial package. The company says the 3.5 x 20-mm device minimizes the number of parts, eliminates fiber splicing, improves fiber routing and saves board space. The power monitor is suitable for use in optical networks with customized wavelengths covering the C-, L-, C- and L-, and S-bands. It also can be designed for use in the 1310-nm window alone or with the 1550-nm window. Tap ratios from 1% to 5% are available.
