A fiber optic micro-interferometer with 0.12-µm vertical resolution has been introduced by Edmund Industrial Optics. It comes with FC, ST and SC connectors, a 110/120-VAC wall adapter, glass reference flats, a hydrophobic solution and a 9-VDC battery adapter. A C-mount video adapter also is available for use with CCD cameras. Designed for use in the field or the lab, the interferometer also is suitable for applications such as inspection of surface finish for scratches and defects, and for viewing and measuring apex offset and fiber undercut or protrusion to ensure the lowest possible return loss.
