PPT Vision Inc. has introduced what it says is the first completely digital machine vision system, dubbed Passport. Employing a two-way serial communications network, the system is equipped with digital serial link technology that is suitable for high-speed, noise-free, simultaneous image acquisition and data transfer. Users can connect the company's digital cameras to the system's processor using a simple twisted-pair cable. Bidirectional communication speeds can reach up to 330 Mb/s, and the system's Vision Program Manager software uses a set of flexible graphic programming tools to reduce setup time. It also provides advanced networking capabilities.
