Spectralize 1, a coating recently introduced by Applied Scintillation Technologies, is designed to improve the sensitivity of photodiode linear arrays, CMOS devices and CCDs into the far-UV. It provides improved signal-to-noise output and high-quality images down to 200 nm. Nonreflecting UV windows are available. The company says that, as an alternative to antireflection coatings, Spectralize 1 increases the spectral range of front-illuminated arrays and improves the quantum efficiency of arrays in the UV. It can be used on a variety of instruments, including UV spectrophotometers, photometers and digital cameras, and is suitable for applications in materials research, astronomy, optical emission spectroscopy and environmental research such as pollution monitoring and marine biology.
