Shimadzu Scientific Instruments has announced a low-temperature, evaporative light-scattering detector for drug-discovery, combinational chemistry and natural-product-development applications. The device identifies analytes with uniform sensitivity despite their spectroscopic properties. Single-mode, low-temperature operation optimizes sensitivity for analytes that are easily missed because of high evaporation temperatures. The cell design reduces band broadening to a level similar to that of UV-VIS detectors. The company says the detector allows sample components to be viewed at the high-picogram level.
