A back-thinned CCD sensor optimized for low-light imaging has been launched by e2v technologies. The CCD60's 128 x 128-pixel format provides 1000 fps with quantum efficiency of >90%. It employs L3Vision electron-multiplying technology to enable detection above the noise floor of the standard output, achieving read noise of <1 e. The company says the instrument's sensitivity makes it suitable for single-molecule imaging, confocal microscopy and adaptive optics. It also is offered in the L3C60B and -BE cameras, which have frame rates to 500 Hz.
