Tinsley Laboratories, a leading supplier of aspheric optics and a subsidiary of SSG Precision Optronics, recently delivered optics for the Advanced Camera for Surveys (ACS), which was installed in the Hubble Space Telescope during Servicing Mission 3B, launched aboard the space shuttle Columbia (STS-109). The ACS increases the discovery efficiency of the telescope by a factor of 10.
Another recent delivery was the primary and secondary mirror for the Space Infrared Telescope Facility, which is scheduled to launch April 15, 2003. During its 2½-year mission, it will obtain images and spectra by detecting the infrared energy, or heat, radiated by objects in space between wavelengths of 3 and 180 µm.
