Analog Devices Inc. has introduced a 3.3-Gb/s laser diode driver that is fully compliant with the small-form-factor pluggable (SFP) multisource agreement and digital diagnostics (SFF-8472) specifications. The ADN2870 features dual-loop control of average power and extinction ratio, enabling automatic laser control without temperature calibration or look-up tables. Voltage input set points eliminate the need for a separate precision digital potentiometer for calibration. The device interfaces directly to a MicroConverter integrated circuit and does not require external potentiometers. It can be used as part of a completely optical transmitter chip set for the multisource agreement market when combined with the company's other SFP-compliant integrated circuits.
