Toshiba America Electronic Components Inc. has expanded its family of CMOS image sensor camera modules with the introduction of the TCM8230MD video graphics array camera. It incorporates a double lens and a single chip, integrating the CMOS sensor and a digital signal processor. Individual square pixels measure 3.75 × 3.75 µm, with 330,000 signal pixels arranged in a 660 × 492 array on the single chip in a 1/6-in. optical format. The camera measures 6 × 6 × 4.5 mm without the socket, which is a 72% size reduction from its predecessor and, the company says, it consumes less power.
